App privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information the Mortgages for Yacht Crew mobile app collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can delete it. It applies to the app only.
Our advice relationship with you is governed separately. Please also read our main privacy notice and the Quilter appointed representative privacy notice, which describe how personal data relating to mortgage and protection advice is processed.
Who we are
Mortgages for Yacht Crew is a trading style of Marine Mortgages Ltd, an appointed representative of Quilter Financial Services Limited and Quilter Mortgage Planning Limited.
For the core activity of giving you advice, Mortgages for Yacht Crew and Quilter jointly determine the purposes and means of processing, and are joint data controllers.
For the app specifically — your account, the messages you send us, the documents you upload, your device's notification token and your payment records — Mortgages for Yacht Crew is the sole data controller.
What the app collects
We only collect what the app needs to work. Specifically:
Account details — your name, email address, telephone number, date of birth, and an encrypted form of your password.
Client profile — your address, country, currency, employer, job title, salary and UK residency status.
Documents you upload — photographs you take with the camera, images you choose from your photo library, and files you attach. These typically include identification, payslips and bank statements.
Agreements you sign — your signature, typed name, the date and time, and the IP address and device type you signed from, so we hold a reliable record of your agreement.
Joint applicant details — if you invite a joint applicant, their name and email address, so we can send them an invitation.
Messages — the content of conversations you have with our advisers in the app.
Health-related answers — if you request a quote for income protection, life cover or critical illness cover, we ask whether you smoke, when you stopped, and whether you have been registered with a UK doctor.
Mortgage information — the details of your application and of any Decision in Principle, including loan amounts, interest rates, terms and lender responses.
Payment information — when you pay a fee in the app, your card details are collected directly by Stripe inside their secure payment sheet. We never see or store your card number. We keep only a Stripe customer reference, a payment reference, and the date and amount paid.
Device information — a push notification token, your device name and platform, so that we can send you notifications about your application.
What the app does not do
The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software. We record when you use certain features, such as opening the overpayment calculator, linked to your account, so we can see which features clients find useful and improve the app. We do not use this to profile you or for marketing. The app does not collect your location. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not share your information with data brokers or advertising networks.
Why we use your information, and our lawful basis
To provide the service you have asked for, and to perform our contract with you — this covers your account, your application, document review, messaging and payment.
To comply with legal and regulatory obligations, including identity verification, anti-money laundering checks and record keeping required by the Financial Conduct Authority.
For our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure and in improving the service.
With your consent, for marketing communications and push notifications. You can withdraw either at any time in the app.
Who we share it with
Quilter, as joint data controller for advice, and their service providers.
Stripe, who process your card payment. Stripe is a separate data controller for the card details it collects.
Expo, whose service delivers push notifications to your device. Expo receives your device's notification token and the content of the notification.
Our hosting and email providers, who store the data and deliver our emails on our instructions.
Regulators, law enforcement and other authorities, where we are required by law to disclose information.
Some of these providers operate outside the United Kingdom. Where information is transferred abroad, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK International Data Transfer Agreements or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Notifications and marketing
You choose whether to receive push notifications and marketing emails when you register, and you can change your mind at any time from the app. Turning off notifications does not affect the emails we must send you about your application.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Open More and choose Delete account. You will be asked to confirm.
When you delete your account:
You are signed out immediately and can no longer sign in.
Your name, email address, telephone number, date of birth, address and employment details are erased or irreversibly anonymised.
Your messages, uploaded documents and device notification tokens are deleted.
We are required by financial services regulation to retain records of the advice we have given and of the transactions we have carried out. Where such a record exists, we keep the minimum necessary for the period the law requires, separated from your account and no longer usable to contact you. Advice records are retained for 50 years. Payment records are retained for six years for tax and accounting purposes.
If you would rather we delete your account for you, or you can no longer sign in, email us at info@mortgagesforyachtcrew.com and we will do it.
How long we keep your information
We keep your personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or for as long as the law requires. Documents you upload in support of an application are retained for the life of that application and then in line with our record keeping obligations.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how we process it, and to receive it in a portable form. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
More information about your rights is available from the UK Information Commissioner's Office, to whom you also have the right to complain.
Keeping your information secure
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Your session token is held in the secure storage provided by your device's operating system. Documents you upload are stored privately and are not publicly accessible. We impose confidentiality and security obligations on the providers who process data on our behalf.
Children
The app is intended for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page if the app's handling of personal information changes, and we will change the date at the top. Where a change is significant, we will tell you in the app.
